[It's a cool day, a few hours past sunrise, when Ramza turns on his camera feed - well, and then places it in the mouth of his Skarmory. He's got many things this land has given him to think about.
But one keeps bubbling up - and, so, Ramza has made his way to the Cherrygrove beach, sitted with an egg in his lap. Even if today is an important day... well, Ramza has gotten his rest. He's actually got the urge to move on.]

Recently, I've spoken to another person from another land - and, he said my manner of speech was... off, in many ways. 'Tis true, I've not heard the nurses and shopkeepers speak like this... is it really that odd, however? We've all come from different lands - would it be less... odd, to try and speak like the natives.

[A pause, as he does shift, slightly. He's got another question.]

My first capture, when I arrived, was a Hoothoot, who I named Hildegard. She proved good, in both training Sevrin, and on her own. But, now she's evolved - she's taller then I. Is that common, in evolu--
[That interuption? Suddenly, the egg in Ramzas' arms is glowing... and there is suddenly a Dratini there, curling around him. It looks like quite the common Dratini, except for the mark under the horn.

With a slight grunt, Ramza shifts so the Dratini is less... trying to strangle him, trying to wrap around him. Yes, he looks that awkward.]
Seems you waited until an important day to hatch - are you trying to say something, or is it just another coincidence? Ah - that reminds me. Though I suppose birthdays are common to celebrate, has anybody here brought important days from their land to the people of this land?
[He gives a full lineface, before reaching and turning off the video feed.]

[A little after that post, Ramza is coming to get you, Walter. >| He is ready to leave, if you are. To be honest, though? His lineface has the slightest of frowns, his walk the slightest of limps. Guess who took an Iron Tail, off-camera?]
I'd not thought it'd rebel, straight out of the egg.

Walter had finished his own packing quickly and was seated on a bench, waiting. His own day-old Skarmory was nestled in the crook of his arm, feet dangling like a chicken being hauled around and head curled down so Walter could scratch her cheek with a free finger.]

A feisty one? [Oof, getting up, retrieving bag with the other arm...] Seems it could be a - dangerous one if it were to misbehave. [He glances sidelong at Ramza with a quirked brow. That's what the limp is about, isn't it.]

'Twas bred by an expert. [Ramza says, almost letting out a sigh but stopping himself. However, he does give a smile to the young hatchling - before his Dratini suddenly tries to wrap around him again, gripping his arm tightly.
He can't help it if this thing is, well. Kind of very clingy - Ramza is trying to reach for his own bag, as he tries to shrug this thing off. Why. :c ] Like your hatching - it seems this one was born with quite a few attacks.

I'm eager to see how the both of them fare in a battle. [He sounds excited, and Gertrude coos as he scratches more firmly under her chin. Grow up tough, little murderbird.]

'Tis not time for that, however.
[Ramza... lets out a sigh!]
He's not tame - not like Systeleley.

[...Walter raises an eyebrow at the dragon scarf, as if to ask what he has to say about the accusation.] Oh?

[Dragon scarf - well, it looks like it's scoffing. What? Him?]
After that broadcast - well, he thought it'd be a nice introduction to attack my leg, as I stood up.
[All deadpan.]

Hah! [I'M SORRY YOUR NEW FRIEND IS SORT OF AN ASS

He slings his bag up onto his shoulder, clapping Ramza on the back with his now-free hand as he walks past him.] You've got to exert some control, or you'll soon not be the master! [And he starts in the direction of the road north, expecting Ramza to follow. Gertrude lets her head dangle, looking upside-down at the lingering duo, and makes encouraging motor noises.]

[Ramza just lets out a huff.]
I've not the words for it.
[But he is following, at his own brisk pace. He's not gonna let a bruised leg slow him down.]

Words? Uhhh... [Hmmm HMMMM yeah he doesn't have any advice to give. You just kind of...Do It.

WELP] Resign yourself to your fate, then. [This "sympathetic" tone is full of bullshit.] Have you any plans for him, Master Dragon? [As is this obeisant one.] I've heard he's a skilled hand with the sword - aye? [with a quick, impish glance at Ramza] - but I think he won't sate the appetite, if yours stirs. A whit too, ah...

[He does the lowering his face-down palm thing in the universal gesture for "short", grinning all the while.]

[...Don't mind the grumplineface from Ramza. He doesn't like the jabs at his height - but it's all in good fun, correct...?

But the Dratini gives a playful spin, suddenly draping himself around Ramza, nice and smug. Yeah, he has plans. Not plans he can tell you, but!]
If we are to get started, I shall get Systeleley ready for travel.
[Yeah, time for Ramza to tell you about Chocobo.]

[Alright, alright, he'll let up. Gonna keep an eye on that darg, though, because he does genuinely think that it gaining a taste for humans is a possibility. DRAGONS, MAN.]

Systel'? [His gaze flicks down at his own Skarmory for a second, then back up. Uhhh.] ...Wherefore?

[And then Ramza lets out his own, full-sized Skarmory.

...Which is taller then him.]
You've not heard of riding creatures?
[A pause.]
Your world does not have Chocobo, then.

[Riding crea- of course he's heard of "riding creatures", it's called a horse. What are you-

waaaait a minute.]

Don't tell me...

...Yes. Skarmory look quite similar to the Chocobo of my land - though, less feathery.
[It's almost like they're covered in thick armour. He places a hand to his own, giving a little bit of a smirk to Walter. This is Ramza trying to be sassy.]
Are you surprised?

You're going to ride that thing along the road? [IT'S A BIRD

THAT'S SILLY]

'Tis rather easy.
[As he starts to get onto the bird, it tenses up. The ScarfDratini hasn't shifted much, though. He's chill about this too.]
At least this bird is not a Red Chocobo. We'd have trouble if that were the case.

[Oh my god.

...all he can do is shake his head in disbelief. Ramza's no doubt already heard every variation on "this shit is bananas" he has in his vocabulary, anyways, so why say it again?]

Don't slice open your leg. [He'll just watch and resign himself to eternal confusion.]

[And, yes - he's now on the bird, waiting to walk alongside Walter.

Does your land have any ridable creature? [He is still curious okay.]

Horses? [Do you seriously just...not....]

Miss Candence mentioned creatures like that - what are they like?

I've not heard of horses, you see - they don't exist in Ivalice, from what I've seen.

[Whoof.] Well... [fumbles for an easy way to explain this, because there are a lot of animals that have four hooves and horses are not cows.] Do you know what deer look like?

[A shake of the head.
Yeah, Ivalice has no deer. Now, in the past of Ivalice, there were two different horse-like creatures. But lol tactics doesn't know about ffxii (and he doesn't know much about summons either or he might know of odins horse). A pause, and then:]
Perhaps there is a Pokemon which is like one.

No doubt. [Damn.] 'Tis a four-legged creature, with hooves. You'll see, I'll point one out as it comes along. [Assuming we find one.]

Until then - we make haste for Violet.
[As they continue, though, Ramza has another thing he's been wondering. Yes he is still on the bird, and is still dragon scarfed.]
You call yourself Samurai... 'tis not the same as the ones from my land, I suppose? Men from a distant land who use strange magicks, the spirits trapped within their katana... I wonder if I could have that power, if I were in Ivalice.

A Samurai is a Samurai, as I know it. [shrug.] Men-at-arms of the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado, demon-slayers and relic-hunters. [He lets go of Gertrude, letting her hop to the ground and jog merrily alongside Systeleley, so he can fold his arms behind his head.] And...whatever else we're ordered to, I suppose. I used to see them patrolling the countryside, catching thieves or carrying orders from the castle.

[Wow. A real, living, nobleman. It was like listening to Saber talk, but just a lot more. Rigid? Yeah, rigid. He couldn't help but smile at that dratini. It's not everyday that a kid sees a dragon!]

Sorta? It's a day when a guy gives chocolate to a girl. It comes a month after Valentine's Day, so it's pretty important to girls, y'know?

As we all have different cultures and backgrounds, there is no reason to try and conform to the local dialect. I'd recommend learning some of this world's more specific vocabulary, however.

'Tis my goal, Cecil, to learn the words of the natives. But, it has been odd getting used to how they speak - and the way that man spoke of my words, 'twas odd.

I imagine that's because our words are automatically translated the moment we arrive here. It would make sense for different languages to sound different, and whatever is causing this might be taking that into account.

Ah - I'd not thought of that. We're truly getting translated? That would make sense - I imagine our worlds do not share a common language.
[...Ramza looks slightly awkward, as he mentions the next part.]
By the by - I've decided to trek to Lavender Town, though it shall take some time. Thank you for mentioning it.

We are. People used to try and understand how it happens, but I suppose everyone has become used to it by now.

...Believe me, you'll be making that mistake for some time still. I spoke of Gil instead of PokéDollars for almost six months, even when serving shoppers.

It does, and so did the world where my comrades and I fought together, and so do all of their homes, for that matter.

[Ramza is now rather interested - trying to pull the Dratini off of him.]
Perhaps all of the worlds you've heard of - and mine - have connections. Have you noticed more, Cecil?

I was once part of my country's army. That's as warrior-like as it gets.

[That, and the whole paladin thing.]

Large birds known as Chocobos can also be found in quite a few lands, though not always in the same colors. Perhaps that depends on their environment.

What sort of rank did you have...
[A pause, before there's a bit of... excitement in Ramzas voice?]
My land also had Chocobo - Yellow, Black and Red, in order of power. 'Twas a shock to hear my travel companion had not heard of them. Have you noticed how Skarmory look quite like them, if the Chocobo was armoured?

I was Lord Captain of our airship fleet. It was fascinating work.

[Until they started attacking town.]

Red Chocobos? We have white ones instead. And I'd say Doduos resemble them even more, if you ignore the second head. Or perhaps if you had a bird that was halfway between Skarmory and Doduo...

[...ah.

Don't mind as Ramza suddenly bows his head to the screen. He'd heard of airships - large machines from the times before. And a lord captain...]
What made you lose that role, Lord Cecil?

'Cecil' is fine.

[Especially when addressing a current sales assistant.]

They decided that my talents would be more useful in public service. It's useful work, certainly, but it's also less interesting.
